On April 1st, 2024, Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid made history by becoming the inaugural Indian player to participate in the Qatar Stars League, the top-tier football league in Qatar, when he replaced Ibrahim Diallo, the former Southampton player, for al-Duhail.

Seventeen-year-old Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid has created a significant moment by becoming the first individual of Indian descent to be chosen for the Qatar national football team. He has secured a spot in the 29-player Qatar squad set to compete in two World Cup qualifiers against Afghanistan on June 6 and India on June 11.

Tahsin’s father, Jamshid, originates from Thalassery, while his mother, Shaima, comes from Valapattanam in Kannur district. The family relocated to Qatar some years back in pursuit of better opportunities.

Tahsin was born in Qatar and learned football skills from his father, a former Calicut University player. He has been honing his abilities at Qatar’s Aspire Football Academy, showcasing impressive dribbling skills that have often surprised opposing defenders.

As a midfielder, Tahsin has already left his mark in Qatar by becoming the first player of Indian descent to participate in the Qatar Stars League. His debut for Al Duhail was in a match against Al Rayyan on March 31.

Alongside Nabeel Irfan, Tahsin is one of the two players of South Asian origin selected for the Qatar national team in the World Cup qualifiers.

Tahsin was actually part of the Qatar U-17 team that played against the Indian youth team during their junior national team’s exposure tour in 2023. Despite holding an Indian passport, Tahsin has been utilizing a temporary Qatari passport, known as a mission passport, which is necessary for involvement in Qatar’s sports leagues. However, given his selection for the national team, it is anticipated that Tahsin will soon receive permanent citizenship in Qatar. Upon acquiring permanent citizenship in Qatar, Tahsin will be required to relinquish his Indian passport.
