OBC scholarship is provided to the Other Backward Class category student in India, Other backward class category comprises of about 41% candidates of the India’s population and is categorized as the socially as well as educationally under privileged sections of the country. There are various scholarship schemes for Other backward classes which are offered by the state and the central government for the other backward class categories for enlightening them the path to education for the talented ones who have weaker financial backgrounds because improving their social and economic status lies in improving their access to education and training both. The national commission of Scheduled castes is also responsible for looking into the grievances and problems of the other backward classes i.e. OBC’s.

National Level Government Scholarships for Other backward classes are as-

  • National fellowship for Other backward classes
  • Post-matric scholarship for OBC for studies in India
  • Pre-matric scholarship for OBC for studies in India
  • Central Sector Scheme for National Overseas

State level Government other backward class scholarships-

  • Merit Scholarship for students
  • Merit Scholarship for student pursuing Technical Education
  • Merit Scholarship for Topper Students

Other non-government Other Backward Class scholarship is ONGC scholarship.

On the basis of merits and needs basis, the students are provided with the scholarships that are sponsored by state and central government or any other non-government bodies. The scholarships for the other backward classes listed above are specifically for the candidates of other backward classes. In addition to these scholarships, candidates of other backward classes can also apply or all the scholarships in India according to their eligibility criteria’s.

The candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes with the proof of their category or certificate of category with the annual income certificate of the family can apply and avail the benefit of the scholarship mentioned above.

National Fellowship

It is a merit based fellowship cum scholarship scheme, conducted and awarded by the ministry of social justice and empowerment, government of India. 300 fellowships are awarded every year to the merit performers who are shortlisted by the committee. They will get a monthly stipend up to Rs.25000 and other allowances of Rs.5000

  • Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme

State government of every state offers Post-Matric Scholarship, but 100% support for this is granted by central government to the candidates who have cleared class 12th with outstanding marks.

  • Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme

This is same scheme as post-matric scheme; this is awarded by the state government with 50% financial assistance which is provided by the central government and in the case of Union Territory 100% assistance is provided by the central government. This is granted to merit students of class 1 to 10 with financially weaker background.

  • ONGC scholarship

ONGC scholarship is sponsored by the Oil and Natural Gas corporation limited for the OBC and economically backward general students who have secured more than 60% marks in class 12 and are continuing their graduation and post-graduation whose family income is less than 2 lac.
